Stylish. Simplistic. Straight-forward!
July 2017

When it comes to my clients’ strands, I always wish for them to look and feel stylish thanks to my efforts. This month, for many in my chair, we want to focus on a few other things as well.

Firstly, thanks to Florida living, the head index and humidity levels will still be in full force the month of August. Thankfully for you, your stylist always has her clients in mind so let’s find out how I can help you keep it cool and quick, ladies and gentleman! Going shorter is always an option I’d love to help you with but all the more common is the request to maintain the length or help you grow it out… So upon lengthy research, I discovered the most perfect article sported by Harper’s Bazaar describing tips for simplicity trending straight from the runways! Cue the effortless pony, carelessly slicked back and secured not by just a pony-tail elastic but by a chic, coquettish black ribbon. It sounds too simple but designers everywhere from the likes of New York, Paris and Milan are playing with the black bow trend. Incorporate this simplified staple in fabrics of velvet, silk, lace, whatever! Just be sure to make it yours with a spin of your own.

Next up in your hairstyle que is the ever-appreciated braid. Much like the pony, this hair trend also totes versatility that is limitless in terms of individual style. Think singular French braid, side-swept ear braid, fishtail, etc. that travels the length of your hair. One may also think of cool-girl corn-row braids in chunky rows of three or four, secured back into a tight ponytail for alternating texture that adds a sense of fashion-forward flare. This article by ELLE Magazine features more fun takes on braiding styles and hints to our final trend. So without further ado, I want to highlight for all my lovely clients one last look, which can be a hard one to grasp but just as simple as the others. It’s all about embracing the natural look and texture of your tresses—with an added visual element of a trendy clip, blingy barrette or flirty headband to add simple style. In this way you’re able to secure your lose strands back, off your face and out of mind to keep you ready for the breezy air with worry-free hair. I hope one of these stylish, simple, straight-forward hairstyles offers you use in the last few weeks of the summer heat. And just know that for you, I’m always a simple booking away!

Busting the Dirty Hair Myth
May 2017

We’re all guilty of it when we notice that appointment approaching. Forgoing the overdue shower that our hair desperately needs.

Adding a few more dashes of dry shampoo. Spritzing a little perfume in our strands to prolong the freshness. All because we heard from someone, somewhere that the dirtiness contributes to a better color, successful process, or it’s simply more protective for our hair. Who is this someone, and how did their nonsensical claim of a dirty mane seem to stick so well? Well I would love to sit and have a chat with them and explain the kind of havoc it could wreak upon my clients color service and the impact it has upon the quality of their outcome. Let me explain: being extreme and shampooing multiple times just before your appointment is highly unnecessary. However, going 3 or more days and having oily fingertips after scratching your head is another thing entirely—prior to your appointment. What’s truly recommended is simply cleansing the night or day prior to service. This ensures a clean surface on the hair shaft, preparing it for full and thorough product application.

I know we may think that it’s healthier or protective to let the oils remain in the hair. This couldn’t be further from the truth because in actuality, present-day products are so gentle. When the strands are oily or worse—harboring week old built up product—this greatly hinders the full saturation of the color service. What you want is hair that is clean, providing a fresh and uniform slate for your stylist to work with. This ensures it is free of anything that could inhibit the coloring molecules from adhering and really penetrating the individual strands. Although this fact holds true for all services, the clients who are seeking to go lighter for the summer months, this is especially important for you! With cleaner hair, a greater effectiveness of lighteners is experienced and color lifting occurs with ease. Therefore knowing this critical step of preparation, it saves us all from the dreaded result of a blotchy, unattractive highlights or the inability to cover grays! That being said, there are some appointments with me, Vinaccia Hair Goddess, here at Bonne Vie Salon that exist as anomalies. There are exceptions to this debunking, and are truly enhanced by your dirtier tresses—those being services for formal styles and many up-do’s. So unless you’re only in the chair for a special occasion style, please arrive to your coloring appointment with a fresh head!

Color Transitions – Going back to Blonde
Oct 2016

When a natural blonde chooses to dye her hair a darker shade or tone, a few things to consider:

NEVER use permanent color. Permanent is for the permanent lighting action NOT the color which will fade. If you goind darker use an alkaline deposit only color sometimes called a Demi. The color will last as long as a permanent but if it fades your natural color is underneath not some weird looking artificial looking color. When refreshing ALWAYS use an Acid based color on your mid shaft and ends. If you pull through the ends the same color you use for your root touch ups your WILL get damaged and dry hair. Also the dye load at the ends of your hair will be darker and ultimately harder to lift when trying to put in highlights. Hence the dreaded darker flat color on ends and “hot” looking roots.

At some point you WILL want to go back to your natural color. The only way to do that in a controlled healthy manner is visits consisting of treatments of Color Pigment remover, FULL head heavy highlights, acid based glosses, deep conditioning treatments and trims to keep the ends healthy. If you have been doing my suggestions above, you might be able to get back to your natural color in 3 – 4 visits at around $200 a pop. If you’ve been using a box Color, Permanent Hair Color, have been pulling color through to the ends, or are going from Red to blonde, plan on it taking 5 to 6 visits to do this in a safe manner. Otherwise you’ll be looking at a pixie cut in your future because of the damage your hair has sustained from trying to do it all to quickly. The first 2 visits are the worse, plan on the first visit taking 5 to 6 hours and you probably will not be extremely happy with the color of your hair, but remember you did this to yourself, and it will all be over soon if you just stick to the plan!

Beth Minardi's Signature Color
Aug 2016

What’s the difference? They're both Steak right?

So often I find clients will spend so much on hair color but aren't willing to spend anything on the Shampoo and Conditioner to ensure it stays bright and shiny. Pretend for a minute your hair is a fragile piece of fabric, which it really is, once it has been damaged there is NO going back. Shampoo is your foundation, it needs to be Sulfate free. Sulfates are cheap salt detergents that break down Color molecules causing them fade out quickly. If you are paying less than $10 most likely the ingredients are not verified and the manufacturing is jumping around for the cheapest price which means the quality is low.

Here's an analogy, think of steak - you can get one at Ruth Chris Steakhouse or you can order one at the Waffle House. What’s the difference? They're both Steak right? There's a tremendous amount of difference in smell, appearance, taste and mouth feel. One is the cheapest meat they can buy, might even be near or over the expiration date, the other is fresh, top quality, carefully chosen and prepared. The same goes for shampoo. They might say they have the same ingredients but there's a world of difference when it comes down to it.

Recently I converted my entire Color line to Beth Minardi's Signature Color because I firmly believe it will leave my clients hair in better health. It's double the price of the color line I had before, but I believe in the quality of my product. I want my clients to have the healthiest hair possible, so to me its worth every penny.

I love the product so much that I became an Ambassador for the Minardi Luxury Color Care Line. The Shampoos and Conditioners are Nutritionally Calibrated to deliver the exact Lipids and Proteins your hair has lost during specific Color Services. Whether, Semi/Demi Permanent, Permanent, or High Lift/Lightener Service they will replace what is lost and the results have been amazing!

I would really like for you to try these new products, below are some links about Beth Minardi (MY Color Goddess and Mentor), the Color and the supporting product lines.

I have a few sample packets of the Permanent Shampoo and Conditioner for trial but if you feel like going for the gold, mention this email and I'll take 20% off all the product I have in stock!

Please take a minute, follow the below links and familiarize yourself with both :)

The Brazilian Blowout
Feb. 2016
vinaccia hair brazilian blowout

Considering a Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment? Here’s what you can expect during your service:

Through the use of a Brazilian Super Nutrient Complex and a proprietary polymer system, the Brazilian Blowout actually improves the condition of the hair by creating a protective protein layer around the hair shaft to eliminate frizz and smooth the cuticle.

The end result is smooth, healthy, conditioned hair with radiant shine.

When you arrive at the salon, the process is as follows.

  1. Stylist will shampoo your hair with the Brazilian Blowout specially formulated Anti-Residue Professional Shampoo to prepare your hair for the optimal smoothing result. After towel drying, your certified Brazilian Blowout stylist will divide your hair into sections and begin to comb the Brazilian Blowout Professional Treatment through each section of the hair from root to tip; lightly dusting each section with the solution.
  2. Solution will surround each hair shaft with protective protein layers to smooth and flatten the cuticle.
  3. Stylist will then blow-dry your hair as straight as possible with a flat or round brush.
  4. Once the hair is dry, the Stylist will divide the hair into four sections and begin using a flat iron to further straighten the hair in 1 - 1¾ inch sections.
  5. Once complete, the Stylist will rinse the hair (no shampoo), towel-dry and apply the Brazilian Blowout Masque to further seal in the professional formulation. After 60 seconds, the stylist will rinse the hair once again and towel dry.
  6. The Stylist will then apply the Brazilian Blowout Smoothing Serum to further seal the cuticle and assist in detangling the hair prior to the final blow dry.
  7. The Stylist will then blow dry the hair straight one final time and style as desired.

You will leave the salon in approximately 90 minutes with beautiful, smooth, healthy radiant hair! If you have long/thick hair your visit could take up to 2hrs or more.

How much will a Brazilian Blowout cost me?

The Prices for this service start at $225 for Short to Medium Hair, up to a maximum of $325 for extra, long and thick hair to account for extra product and time needed to finish the service correctly.

Here is a excellent video that will help explain the process. Brazilian Blowout Video
